Kuvaus

This handbook is for children and young people aged 10 and over who have been placed in alternative care outside their birth home.

The handbook is published by Finnish NGO Pesäpuu - Centre of Expertise in Child Welfare and the Central Union for Child Welfare. It has been written by the young people of Pesäpuu's Survivors team. Survivors is a team of people between the ages of 17 and 25 who have all grown up in alternative care. The team works to impact thinking and practices in child welfare and alternative care.

The book deals with the question of what child welfare means, what the law says about child protection and what the rights and obligations of the young person are. Discussed in detail, are also the role of the social worker, how to keep in contact with your birth family and the things you need to know about, for example, meetings with your social worker. There is also a section devoted to the importance of eating and sleeping habits.

The Finnish ombudsman has also participated in the preparation of the book, and comments on the text have been made by a number of specialists in the field of child welfare.

The handbook exists only in PDF-format.
