The Central Union for Child Welfare’s report How the costs of protecting children accumulate II examines the costs of protecting children and how these costs are incurred. This publication is an update to the previous report ”How the costs of protecting children accumulate", which was published in 2012. In recent years, the development of key indicators in protecting children has taken a worrying turn. The costs have increased,
the number of emergency placements has kept growing, and the number of child welfare notifications has gone up especially sharply.

This report seeks to establish the price of these human stories. Every caseis based on the  real experiences of individuals and families, which effectively shed light on the reality behind the figures. The report poignantly illustrates and explores the connections between finances and the human experience. If what is humane is also more cost-effective, why should we not embark onchanging the system in a more humane direction? Some of the  cases present alternative realities in which more help would have been provided sooner. Download and read part two of the report or read it in Finnish!
